How to Maintain Synthetic Hair Extensions and Make Them Last Longer
You’ve just clipped in your new Koko Couture synthetic hair extensions, and the transformation? AMAZING! But how do you keep those strands looking fresh, soft, and tangle-free wear after wear?
1. BRUSH YOUR HAIR GENTLY 🎀
Synthetic hair tangles more easily than human hair, so brushing is key. But it’s all about the right brush and the right technique.
Use a wide tooth comb, a detangling hair brush or our large wooden paddle brush! Start from the ends and gently work your way up. Hold the base of the hairpiece to avoid pulling and decrease shedding.
2. WASH WITH CARE 💆♀️
Put your hairpiece in a bowl or a sink filled with lukewarm water. Add a small amount of mild shampoo (silicon and paraben free shampoo) or a shampoo meant for synthetic hair. Let it soak for a few minutes and swish gently - do not rub or twist the hair! Rinse thoroughly and apply some hair conditioner on ends and leave it for 10 minutes. Finally, rinse the conditioner out with a cool or lukewarm water - gently pat dry and hang the hairpiece to dry out naturally!
Do not wring the hair or use a hairdryer!
3. USE HAIR STYLING APPLIANCES WITH CARE 🔥
Most of our hair extensions are heat resistant up to 180 degrees Celsius, however, if the packaging says avoid heat, then step away from the styling tools! It can melt or permanently damage synthetic fibres.

4. STORE THE HAIRPIECES THE RIGHT WAY ✨
When you're not wearing your synthetic hair, keep it safe! Use a satin bag or the original box/bag the hairpiece came in to store it. Before you put it away, gently brush it and detangle. Store in a dry place, away from direct sunlight.
You can also hang the hairpiece in your wardrobe - just make sure it is not squashed together with your clothes.
5. MINIMISE FRICTION 🌬
Friction will cause tangling, matting and frizz - here's how to avoid it!
- Don't sleep in your hair extensions!
- Avoid wearing your hairpiece in extreme weather, for example, in strong winds or heavy rain
- Watch out for rubbing against high collars, scarves and coats.
