What is the difference between a lob and a bob?

Most people will have heard of the bob hair cut which is a timeless classic, but what
is a lob? A lob is the name given to a long bob. So, what is the difference and should
you go for a lob or bob haircut.

When deciding how short to go with your bob or if your more of a lob cut the first
thing to think about is the shape of your face. If your face is rounded, then a short
bob can make your face look even rounder. A lob cut will lengthen the face and suit
this face shape better. If you have a square shaped head with a prominent jaw a
short bob cut will also draw attention to this so choosing longer layers will soften the
face rather than draw attention to the jawline.

If you have a heart shaped face then a shorter, blunt bob cut is perfect and very
flattering as it will frame the face and draw to your features. If you have an oval
shaped face, then both style of bob and lob will suit you.

It is worth thinking about the time and effort you wish to put aside to styling your
hair. If you have a lob, then you have a more versatile style as you can either have it
sleek or in waves and also you will be able to wear your hair up. If the bob is more a
short blunt style, then you do not have as much leeway in regard to styling and it
may mean that you spend more time blow drying and straightening to ensure that
your bob looks neat. A short bob will need trimming to keep It looking great,
longer bobs tend to not need trims as often as they are more versatile.

It is worth thinking about your hair colour when deciding to go for a lob or a bob.
Lightened hair with balayage and ombre tones look wonderful on a long bob style as
the colours suit hair with movement. Short bobs tend to look better and more striking
with block darker colours.
